Exploring Randolph Engineering Sunglasses

January 6, 2011

I’ve been looking to start carrying some high quality new USA made accessories. One of the companies that I was immediately drawn to is Randolph Engineering. RE makes their sunglasses down in Randolph MA. Most people don’t know this but they are one of only 2 American sunglass manufacturers. Oakley, Ray Ban, Oliver Peoples, Revo have all bought out by the Italian mega-sunglass corporation called Luxottica Group.

I am very impressed with the quality and weight of these glasses. I am likewise impressed that every pair of sunglasses comes with a very nice leather case, wiping cloth and tool kit. The lens clarity is excellent, although I do wish I had gotten a pair of tan lenses to see how they look. The prices start at $109 for the Aviators and P3s, then go up to $119 for the Concords and $129 for the Crew Chiefs for non polarized lenses.

If you’re curious about the weird stalks on the Aviators it’s because they primarily sell with bayonet temples to maintain the authenticity and purpose of the glasses. The bayonet temples are designed to fit comfortably underneath your flight helmet.
